Sacramento County deputies are probing a violent incident that broke out Saturday evening at Howe Park as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an unauthorized event of a crowd of several hundred.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 in the evening after learning of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, another report was received mentioning a reported physical confrontation happening within the park grounds.
An overhead unit flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. However, it became clear that an enormous crowd had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Law enforcement personnel worked to disperse Sacramento park shooting 2026 the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems instructing the crowd to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.
It was during this dispersal that an estimated 20 to 25 shots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel quickly moved to looking for those injured.
The Shooting Victims
In total, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — made up of one woman and three men each reported to be in their twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical teams stated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided support and helped care for the four victims at the park.
The Investigation
Most of the gunfire appears to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators located more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were identified in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the nearby Home Depot. These findings indicated that a second shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting was pulled over in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were traveling to Solano County to collect the individuals for questioning. Video evidence revealed that there were two gunmen.
